"What Products Are Truly Worth Recommending" |
|
At Honeydale Audio, we deliberately stock
a narrow range of products. This is quite unusual compared
with many other dealers, so a word or three of explanation
is required.
The early 1970s saw the emergence of many new, British HiFi
companies. Some of these lasted only a short while, some have
only recently faded away, others still have diversified into
new areas of business, and a few have continued to grow and
prosper by sticking faithfully to their original goals. Naim and Rega are two such companies. Both companies enjoy exemplary
reputations within the industry; their products being regarded
as amongst the best available in the world. This last statement
holds true for all aspects of the companies' products; performance,
reliability, build quality, longevity, re-sale value and the
service back-up provided by the manufacturer. This is why
we choose to deal with them.

"But, doesn't this mean that Honeydale Audio only stocks
a few products?" |
| |
No, no and many thousands of pounds times no!
As an example; back in the late eighties, Naim manufactured
ten principal products. This figure has now more than trebled
just in the purist Stereo range, with many more models being
produced for the Audio-Visual and Multi-room markets. Interestingly,
the cost of only one of Naim's current flagship 55 models
would have bought you their entire late 80s range! This is
not solely due to the ravages of inflation (how much would
your present house have cost in 1988?), but is an indication
of how far Naim's performance ceiling has risen. To illustrate
this further; their top preamp in 1988, the NAC32-5, is now
comfortably outperformed by their new, entry-point model,
the NAC122X, which costs significantly less (in real terms)
than the 32-5 did. Meanwhile, at the other end of their preamp
line-up, the awesome NAC552 costs 18 times as much, has performance
to match, and is regarded by many as the finest preamp in
the world.
Rega’s range is no less impressive, and their products have long been revered for producing “high-end” performance at affordable prices.
Even more ‘wallet-friendly ‘ are those products from NAD. This manufacturer has, since the 1970s, produced highly-respected HiFi models – made in the Far East, but “tuned” for the British ear.
These brands, together with excellent speakers and Sub-Woofers from
Q Acoustics and MJ Acoustics, allow Honeydale Audio to offer quality HiFi systems from less (in real terms) than a 1970s Music Centre, up to the very best you can buy.
Come and experience it for yourself!

"Ok, so you've got
lots of models, but what about all the other brands out
there? …
Aren't you limiting customer choice?" |
|
| |
This is a fair question, but let me answer it by explaining
what often happens in a traditional shop. In an effort, genuine
as it might be in concept, to offer a wide range of products
to appeal to as many people as possible, a shop tends to collect
agencies - especially those with '5 star review' models in
their line-up. When a customer enters the shop to buy a system,
the salesperson has a bewildering number of potential combinations
he could suggest, which often leads to confusion. Worse than
this, though, is the pressure inherent upon the salesperson
to "sell-through" on all the brands stocked. It
is highly unlikely that all of the models in the shop are
equally good … but somebody will have to end up buying
them. This sorry situation is exacerbated when 'special offers'
and 'bulk buys' rear their ugly heads. Of course, some 'special
offers' really are special, and worth taking advantage of,
but many aren't ….. being offered good odds on a 3-legged
race-horse still doesn't make it a good bet!
Our approach is deliberately different. We stock consistently
excellent products from pedigree manufacturers that we trust.
We know these products inside out. We know how to combine
them to create a variety of 'tonal colours' to suit most customers.
Of course, we don't expect to be able to satisfy every potential
HiFi enthusiast - but at least you can be sure we won't ever
try to sell you a turkey … even if it's Christmas!

You can find out more about our favourite brands at www.naim-audio.com and www.rega.co.uk.
Alternatively, you are welcome to contact
us, and we'll endeavour to answer your question
promptly.
